A Model End
November 4th 2010 07:19
Again it is with great sorrow that i find myself reporting on the demise of another talented celebrity/musician. Although this is different as i grew up with this guy and his music. As a youngster i wanted to be him, he epitomised cool, he was part of a great Australian band and in interviews and on Countdown he seemed like an extremely likeable guy.
James Freud of The Models died this morning after a long battle with personal demons. He took his own life within a week since The Models were inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame. Songs of his such as Out of Mind Out of Sight and Barbados were part of the soundtracks to countless young Australian lives back in the 1980's. He had been part of the Australian Music Industry for over 30 years whether it was in the spotlight or behind the scenes.
Seeing the news posted this afternoon led me to go onto youtube to relive his musical history which in turn took me back to my own past. Songs such as King of Kings, I Hear Motion and Big on Love took me back to the 80's to places where my memories had for years been hidden amongst day-glo and baggies. As a teenager i loved The Models, i had the albums and it was crushing to see them split in 1988 even though James went on to form Beatfish in the 90's.
My heart and condolences go out not just to James' wife and children and all the people that knew him personally, but also to the scores of us who didn't know him but hold dear the memories associated with what he created, and the joy that he and his bandmates gave us in our younger years.
RIP James Freud...and Thankyou.
