The Future isn't what it used to be...

Here's something i found on my hard drive. I wrote it for a Broadcasting course i was doing in Adelaide at the time. Boy was i way off. Enjoy.
Me – In 5 years time.
It’s 2008 and here I am sitting in my beachside cottage looking out onto a calm sea, reminiscing about my rise from obscurity to becoming a popular disc jockey and best-selling author.
With my wife of 2 years away for week on business, I am left to tend to the dogs, tropical fish and my European car collection. I have everything I want, sure, but do I have everything I need? Well that is still under consideration. I often wonder how I reached this point in my life, what was the defining moment that lead to this complete change of lifestyle, and complete change of me.
It must have begun with the completion of the Radio School Advanced Course. That certainly gave me the belief that I was capable of transcending into a world I had little knowledge of but I always wanted to be a part of. With the skills garnered from the course and armed with my demo cd, I sent copies to as many radio stations as I could with the confidence that if I could get even an interview, I could make them want me. Not long after having received some feedback I soon found myself in a job at a rural station. It required me to be on my toes as not only did I have a 4-hour on air shift but I also had to do everything from reception to programming. Although being a “baptism of fire” it also gave me the drive I needed and the skills required to make it in capital city.
With 2 years experience at 5RM (Berri) under my belt, I decided to start writing in my spare time. It was just 2 months later when I received a call from MMM Melbourne asking if I was interested in a mid-morning shift. They had heard my show and apparently I was what they were after to fill their vacancy. Naturally I jumped at it. I packed my bags and headed towards my dream, towards capital city. From there the momentum increased tenfold. I was meeting famous rock stars, partying with local and international celebrities, meeting and debating politicians, I even made the TV on occasion. What a ride! And when I finally did finish my book last year I had no trouble finding a publisher. I took time off the radio to promote the book so I managed to find myself on the other side of the microphone on occasion, as well as a few more appearances on TV.
After the whirlwind success of my book I went straight back to work at MMM to find that they had decided to give me my own evening show. I was able to combine my love for music and for writing by basing my show around the Literacy of Rock. To go more in depth into the lyrics of songs for their meanings and inspirations, it has been more rewarding than I could ever have imagined.
While I have an apartment close to the studio, I like nothing more than to come down to the beach house to collect my thoughts and adjust my eyes from the glare of the limelight – and to write another bestseller of course.

I always appreciate positive feedback. It's just a shame that what i had written didn't eventuate in my life. Well, not yet anyway!
Take care.
